GREAT WEEK!!

We have had a GREAT week of learning this week!!! The children are working hard with the sounds of each letter. We have been putting letters together to make words. We have been putting words into sentences and writing sentences. Your child knows what a period, question mark and exclamation mark are. Have him/her point them out to you during storytime at bedtime(I hope you are reading to your child at bedtime??). Be sure to let your child demonstrate how to read the correct way when there is an exclamation mark(we have been practicing this in class). We have also been working a lot with numbers. Talk to your child about what is more, and what is less.

Helpful Homework Sites

Be sure to scroll down this blog to see the "Parent Helps" section. I have links to sites that have ways that parents can help their children at home with reading and math. The children's links also have games and activities that can reinforce skills that we are learning in the classroom. Take the time to explore these sites with your child.

September News

We are very busy in our classroom. We use a calendar everyday in our classroom. Ask your child daily what day it is, what tomorrow will be and what yesterday was. Talk about the weather, we are using a thermometer to check the weather daily. Your child needs to bring a jacket to school because we go outside daily unless it is raining. We are studying the letters of the alphabet and learning that letters make sounds. We have noticed that putting letter sounds together make words. Encourage your child to write letters of the alphabet at home.

We made solar bracelets on Wednesday when we talked about the sun and the color yellow. We have started our first unit in Math and have been sorting all types of things. Our favorite thing to sort was BUTTONS. We have learned that items can be sorted in many ways such as size, colors, shape, etc. We have been counting the children in our classroom every day and we have ten boys and nine girls which equals 19 all together. We have a wonderful group of children in our class this year, and I want to say a special "Thank you" to you, the parents, for being sure your child had all their necessary kindergarten supplies. Remember we start promptly at 7:35a.m., and dismiss at 1:25 pm each day.
